On May 28th, 2022, I was invited by the Psychology Department of Cebu Doctors’ University to conduct a lecture focusing on “Embracing Feminine Diversity: Breaking Down Barriers as a Modern Day Filipina” to the AB Psychology course students as a part of their “Muses of the Visayas” weekend webinar series.
My lecture began with an attempted to define ‘beauty’ followed an intervention to the students by encouraging them to embrace one’s flaws and imperfections for true beauty lies beyond the physical. This was then further emphasised through sharing my background experiences and expertise in my respective field then connecting it to the diversity we find in Filipina beauty today.
The final segment of my lecture provided opportunities for students to better understand themselves through identifying one’s figure and dressing appropriately for their specific shape, size, height and preferences; appreciating one’s face and features, and learning to work with it; and providing tips on posture and poise. My lecture ended with an activity to develop one’s self-love and self-confidence.
